We met in the library.
I heard a rustling noise,
probably just someone reading,
turning pages.
I noticed movement in the corner.
A small light reflecting off the white pages
of library books.
There was this … thing.
Its body slim, sleek, black, cold,
so small it could fit on an A4 page.
Its movements were unusual.
ELECTRIC ANIMAL
2020
Installation with artificial grass, nature sounds, two projections
Artbook composed with a handscanner
size A4, 200 pages, swiss binding
Experimental video shown at Lichtsicht 7 in Bad Rothenfelde, Leerstand als Freiraum in Pforzheim and graduation.studio of HfG Karlsruhe
Electric Animal narrates the process of encountering an unknown being in its natural habitat, taking it outside into nature, and recording the experience of nature through a different kind of eye.
The focus of the installation and the book is the handscanner, a simple tool that can easily be carried
around. The exploration of this tool is the focus of this work: learning about special phenomena that occur when scanning things with organic and uneven surfaces in natural light.
The projections reflect the animalʼs way of seeing: gradually building an image line by line with its slit-like eye.
