On Noor Inayat Khan
2023
Video installation for Unpleasant Affairs (Caroline Kapp | Manon Haase)
production of a short film about Noor Inayat Khan shown at SPIELART Munich
Noor Inayat Khan is Nora, Noor, Madeleine, Indian princess, harpist, children's book author, secret agent, child psychologist, radio operator, Muscovite, American, Parisian, Londoner, Muslim, a resistance fighter. In Nazi-occupied Paris, she is imprisoned as a Special Operations Executive of the Women's Auxiliary Air Force and ends up in the Dachau concentration camp. She was one of the few women to be murdered there on 13 September 1944 - as a person of colour from a Sufi family who resisted the fascist regime.
The short film traces an initial search that begins in 2021 in a Bavarian mountain village during research work on the Obersalzberg. Caroline Kapp and Manon Haase meet a descendant who got stuck in the snow there in the 1980s, their grandson, and decided to stay. Their further search takes them to London, Paris, a shrine, archives and Dachau. The places begin to overlap.
